At the end of October, the retrospective that the contemporary art museum of Barcelona has dedicated to the work that the artist produced in the United States opened its doors with the classic Blue Margarita. A cocktail that was born in the bar of this renowned restaurant which now the city’s mixologists want to pay homage.
For this reason, the next Thursday mixologists from Boadas, Caribbean Club, Fizz Bartenders, ESHOB school and Ideal Cocktail bar will offer an original blue cocktail with a tequila base created to pay tribute to the International universe.
The bartenders of the city will happily collaborate every “Thursday of Blue Cocktails”, once again, an event that celebrates the cocktails as an art of sharing ideas, experiences and culture.

Visiting the Cognac commune in France

Cognac is a french commune located in the Charente department famous for being the origin of the brandy that names it. Last week Josep Mª Gotarda traveled to the area along with a team of barmans from different parts of Europe (from Stockholm to Paris and Spain in-between) to visit the most famous châteaux and to take part not only in the process of making the cognac but also to do some cognac tasting.

The first distillery they visited was the Merlet & Fils, the famous distillery Merlet has been operating since 1850 and it’s worldwide reknown for being the creator of the Merlet Cognac, Gotarda and his pals had the chance to visit the barrels where the cognac is aged, which are more than a hundred years old and are nowadays true relics, as well as the classical alembics and vineyards that surround the place. Moreover they could take part in a special cognac tasting organized by Luc Merlet, owner of the château.

Cognac region is not only famous by its brandy, it’s also known for having a wide range of oysters and the team was able to visit the Cognac & Cherac market where they could taste the different kinds of oysters they offer as well as other typical products of the area.

We leave you here a selection of pictures of the travel

    The Manhattans cocktail Origins

The mother of Winston Churchill is credited with its invention in the New York City’s Manhattan Club, which was before the Empire State Building was actually build, the day celebrating the election of his friend, Samuel Jones Tilden, as governor of New York. Lady Randolph Churchill (Jennie Jerome) was born in Broooklyn and was a woman of remarkable beauty, with a very intense and hectic life: he married three times and had a significant influence on the political career of his son. He died after falling over a ladder because of some high heels that were quite unsuitable for walking.
In the book Valentine’s Manual of New York (1923), the bartender of New York’s Hofftman House mentions a man named “Black”, the supposedly owner of a gambling den on Broadway, as its inventor.
Another story, according to an article in a journal of Winconsin, puts its creation in 1899 on a ship that sailed the Mississippi River. Colonel Joe Walker, who was traveling with friends from New York, mixed whiskey and vermouth, which were the only drinks they had, and came to New Orleans, and once perfected the mix, he named it “Manhattan” in honor their friends.

    Divine Barcelona

Last week we were featured in Barcelona Divina magazine. We were in a top 5 of the best cocktail bars of Barcelona which were challenged to create de “Barcelona Divina’s Cocktail”. Our barman Manel was inspired by the uniqueness and explosiveness of this city to create his cocktail Barcelona Divina, in it he mixed the citric of oranges and limes, the sweetness of cinnamon and strawberries and the final touch was the adding of a spicy chile all of that mixed in Mezcal. Manel defined it like:

“This is a refreshing cocktail, fruity, with smokey and spicy details and with a slightly peppery final touch”.

Here we leave you the ingredients as well as the elaboration if you want to try it at home!
